During a baby’s first year of life, a number of developmental milestones are achieved. This includes being able to see things clearly, lift the head up, rollover, identify parents, crawl, walk, and talk. In order to meet these goals, To accomplish these milestones, it is a parent’s duty to ensure proper health and create the right environment.
Here are some baby care tips to keep in mind for those first 12 months of your baby’s life.
- Make sure they get enough sleep
Sleep is important for all living beings. Since newborn babies develop at a rapid rate, they need more sleep. On average, babies under a year old need to get 12-14 hours of sleep every night. They may not get continuous bouts of sleep. Babies tend to nap for 1-4 hours at a time. But in total, they should be getting 12+ hours of sleep every night.
- Talk to your baby more
Babies like listening to the sound of their parent’s voice. They have been hearing your voice since the time your baby was residing in your womb. Thus, it gives a sense of comfort and happiness knowing that you are around. Beyond comforting your baby, listening to your speech will enable them to start trying to speak as well.
- Ensure the food is well digested
Providing nutrition-rich food to your baby is not enough. For them to absorb the nutrients, they should be able to digest the food as well. When you breastfeed your baby, make sure to burp them both during the feeding and after. This will ensure that there is no gas in the tummy. A bit of gripe water can also help ease the digestion process.
- Spend more time with them
Babies tend to mimic the behavior they see around them. The more time you spend with your baby, the more they will learn from you. This is why it is important for you to spend more time with your little one.
Spending time by talking, singing or playing will encourage them to build their social and conversational
- Increase floor time
The more time your baby spends on the floor, the more they will learn. Place a toy near your baby while they lay on the floor. They will soon start wriggling towards the toy. They will try to grab objects that are near them. They will also kick their feet about as they lay on the floor. They love exploring their surroundings and may try to look all around while they are lying down. This exercises those baby neck muscles as well. Slowly, these activities will allow them to lift themselves off the ground and, eventually, stand up and walk by themselves.
