Expecting a baby can be a very exciting time, especially for first-time parents. Along with the happy news, pregnancy also brings along with it a whole lot of questions. Most parents don’t know what to expect on this new pregnancy journey. They want to ensure that they are doing what’s best for their baby and want to learn how to do so.
We understand the struggle that new parents have and we are here to help. There are a
number of lifestyle choices that affect your baby and you. Here are some important pregnancy
guidelines to follow for a healthy baby:
1. Regular prenatal visits, tests and scans
Don’t miss out on any of your prenatal visits to the obstetrician. Each one of the visits are important as they allow your doctor to keep track of your prenatal and fetal development. Make sure you select a well-trained, qualified doctor whom you trust and feel comfortable with. Plan out your tests and scans so that you and your doctor can be well-prepared for it.
2. Pay attention to your pregnancy diet
When you are pregnant, you should pay close attention to your diet. What you eat and drink can
affect your baby’s health. Right now, you need to eat well to ensure that you and your baby are
getting adequate nutrition. Stick to eating healthy foods that you are familiar with and not allergic
to. Avoid trying any new foods during pregnancy. If you feel doubtful about a certain food item,
contact your doctor.
3. Adequate rest and relaxation
Being relaxed is very important for a healthy pregnancy. When you are stressed, it can negatively affect your baby. When you are relaxed and happy, your baby will be happy as well. So, make sure to spend some time to de-stress. Try doing simple, light exercises (such as walking and swinging your arms) to relieve the stress. Also, try to get adequate sleep every day. It is important to listen to your body’s needs. Take naps during the day if you feel tired.
4. Drink plenty of fluids
Staying hydrated is essential during pregnancy. It allows for the proper functioning of your body. It will also help ease pregnancy symptoms like nausea, tiredness, and cramps. Avoid drinking from plastic containers since they can transfer toxins to your baby. Switch to drinking from copper containers as it is a much safer and healthier option.
5. Fruits and vegetables for energy
Do you find yourself reaching for a mug of coffee whenever you need a pump of energy? Try grabbing a fruit instead. Make the conscious decision to switch to fruits and vegetables instead of caffeine. Anything more than one small cup of coffee in a day can be harmful to the baby growing in your tummy. You will soon find that the extra fruits and vegetables give you more energy than a cup of coffee once did.
